A good brewpub isn’t just about great beer, it has to offer a little something extra too. Thankfully, Human Robot has it all and more.
They have a nice selection of beers, a cool design and some very friendly staff. They even offer a small tasting room off the main brew pub. There are some surprisingly tasty food options as well, such as the aptly named “funny faces,” which is a grilled cheese that was a real winner.
The brewery is the brainchild of Dustin Wilson, a head brewer who won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2013. In the brewing department, they have a 7 BBL electric brewing system that uses less energy than a typical inner heating coil system. The system was made by Smart Machine Technologies of Virginia, and is a state-of-the-art marvel in its own right.
The brewpub is in the heart of Kensington, which is already a hotbed of neo-Victorian architecture and has the benefit of being close to a variety of excellent restaurants and a number of great boutiques and retailers on its doorstep.
The brewery is a short walk from the subway, and it makes for a convenient place to go for lunch or a quick dinner, and has a great wine list. There are also a few nice outdoor spaces that are perfect for enjoying a summer evening.
The newest entrant to the brew pub scene is a relative newcomer that’s making a name for itself in the Philadelphia area. The brewery is located in a former Saint Benjamin’s location and is the first of its kind to be found on the west side of town, in the same complex as the venerable Starbucks.
