Located in the former Borough Brewhouse, 210 York Road, Jenkintown PA.
Kensington’s Human Robot Brewpub has a new location, a 140-seat brewpub in the former Borough Brewhouse on York Road. The brewpub features 14 drafts and a German beer hall-inspired food menu from their culinary partner Herman’s At The Haus.
A few blocks away, another Philadelphia brewery is about to open up: Animated Brewing Co. It’s a family-friendly spot with a handful of craft beers and bar food. A fun and laid-back atmosphere makes it a great place to stop before a movie at the adjacent theater.
The brewpub serves up traditional lagers and west coast IPAs as well as innovative, far-out fruit-bomb sours and bold stouts. It’s a solid addition to the brewery scene in Jenkintown and the surrounding area.
Besides the brews, there’s also a great selection of wines and cocktails on tap as well as an extensive list of Pennsylvania-made spirits. It’s a great place to stop and unwind with friends or to meet up with new ones.
Atkinson has two children and the premise of the brewery is geared towards families, with a kids’ area with toys and games. In fact, last year they held a ball drop event for New Year’s Eve that was mostly aimed at kids.
When asked why he purchased another brewery, Atkinson replied that his goal was to be able to have families at the brewery while keeping up the quality of the beer. He said he had heard from other brewers that they struggled to do this when they had kids, so he wanted to make sure they could.
The brewery’s brewing team is led by Jake Atkinson, Chris Roller and Ken Correl. They also have Andrew Foss brewing at the new site as well as a partnership with Herman’s At The Haus for the food menu.
Guests can order food through the Herman’s At The Haus app, and there are plenty of tables available. There’s also a big leather couch for lounging, and the beer list is split between traditional lagers and NEIPAs.
While the brewpub isn’t quite a destination, it’s a solid addition to the craft beer scene in Jenkintown and the surrounding area. It’s a fun and laid-back atmosphere that makes it a great spot to stop and unwind with friends or to start a night out with new ones.
There are a few other nearby breweries, including Ratigan Brewing, but they aren’t included in this article. We’ll update this article when we hear of any more.
McAllister Brewing Company
The husband and wife team of Mike and Kate McAllister, along with longtime friend Seth Montz, rolled out the North Wales brewery in 2018. Their shared passion for craft beer balances a full-time career of law enforcement officer, nurse and U.S. Army soldier with their love of brewing and the community they live in.
Besides the brews, there’s a great selection of wines and cocktails on tape as well as an extensive list of Pennsylvania-made spirit. It’s a great place to sit and unwind with friends or to meet up on a night out.
